So, Manga, Japanese animation is big in Taiwan? Lately in the capital Taipei where large-scale manga expos are held several times a year at stadiums and conference centres, hundreds of cosplayers gather to show off their flamboyant outfits and accessories.
At a recent expo at National Taiwan University’s stadium, Cosers were seen portraying a wide variety of roles from princesses to maids, space warriors, martial arts masters and even Death. Good news for Anime students: The Tokyo Geijutsu Daigaku (Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music) is planning to start an animation course in the University to breed anime directors and researchers that will be able to perform on an international level. This will be the the first university in Japan where you can major in anime on a university level.
The Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music is usually considered the top university in Japan when it comes to music and the arts, so it does put a bit of academic recognition on the artistic value of anime. Read the rest of this entry »
